Anise

Anise is an annual herb of the parsley family. It’s native to Egypt and the eastern Mediterranean region but also grows in other parts of the world. Anise has a flavor similar to that of licorice and has been used for centuries as a spice and as a medicine. It contains compounds such as Acetophenone, Anethole, Anise alcohol, Estragole, Limonene, P-anisaldehyde and Pinene which are likely responsible for how it works.
