Weekend Bookbinding Workshop

March 21st & 22nd at 10AM at Valixya

Step into the art of traditional bookbinding during this immersive two-day workshop designed for creatives, readers, and makers who want to learn a timeless craft by hand.

Over the weekend, you will learn both the structural foundations of bookbinding and the delicate finishing details that transform a simple text block into a lasting heirloom.

Saturday: Rebinding Your Favourite Book

Saturday is dedicated to transforming a beloved book into a custom, fabric-bound special edition.

You will learn how to:

• Carefully remove an existing cover
• Measure and cut grey board for a durable hard case
• Create a professional fabric cover using acid-free materials
• Properly case in your text block
• Finish with clean edges and strong structural integrity

This process allows you to preserve a story you love while giving it new life in a handcrafted cover made by you.

Sunday: Bookbinding from Scratch

On Sunday, we focus on building a book entirely from the ground up.

You will learn how to:

• Fold and assemble signatures
• Sew signatures together using traditional techniques
• Prepare your spine for longevity
• Create and attach a hard cover case
• Align and press your finished book properly

By the end of the day, you will have created a fully handmade journal — sewn, assembled, and bound completely by hand.

What You’ll Take Home

By the end of the weekend, you will leave with:

• A custom rebound special edition of your favourite book
• A handmade hard-cover journal created from scratch
• A starter bookbinding tool kit including essential tools such as a ruler, spacer, bone folder, and corner cutter
• The knowledge and confidence to continue binding on your own

You will also have the opportunity to personalize your projects by choosing from a curated selection of high-quality bookbinding linen fabrics and decorative end papers.

What to Bring

Participants are asked to bring:

• One favourite book to rebind
• A packed lunch for each day

All other tools and materials will be provided.

This workshop is perfect for beginners, creatives, and anyone who values craftsmanship, preservation, and the beauty of handmade objects. No prior experience is required, just patience, curiosity, and a love for books.

This Workshop will start at 10am on Saturday 21st of March 2026
